Tristan recently completed an MA in Modern History at the LSE with Distinction, having graduated from King's College London with First Class Honours in History. He specialises in 20th-century history: his dissertation research focused on Margaret Thatcher's foreign policy, and he has also written on law and violence in colonial India and Hong Kong, the failed peace summits of the 1950s, and Soviet-American diplomacy. That breadth means he can show students the underlying factors behind a topic, taking them beyond the syllabus and into the top bands of the mark scheme.
Tristan tutors History and Politics up to A-Level, and English Language, English Literature and Geography up to GCSE. The core skills carry across all of them, so he places particular emphasis on essay writing, building an argument, and analysing primary and secondary sources. He also teaches English as a Foreign Language, and coaches revision technique using evidence-based methods like active recall, spaced repetition and colour-coded notes, the same approach that worked for him.
Outside teaching, Tristan is a keen runner and regularly competes in cross-country and long-distance races. He is also a big reader, mostly fiction at the moment, with Graham Greene, J.D. Salinger and F. Scott Fitzgerald among his favourites.
